Description

This building, an icon of international modern architecture, was designed by Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe and Lilly Reich as the German pavilion for the 1929 International Exhibition. The pavilion was demolished in 1930. Given the fundamental importance of this work in the development of the architectural language of Mies, it was decided to rebuild it in the eighties at the initiative of Oriol Bohigas, Urban Planning delegate of the Barcelona City Council at the time. The reconstruction project was carried out following the original plans and using the same construction materials: glass, metal and stone. The new building, located in the same place as the original, manages to convey the spatial values and geometric rigor that characterized Mies and Reich's masterpiece.
