Description

The town centre is a very representative area, which serves as a reference to value and revitalise the architectural heritage Montilla has to offer. The main objective is to make the route more accessible and, above all, to make the historic centre of the municipality habitable.  To help consolidate the historic city centre, a project is underway to encourage the reuse of the vacant urban space and regenerate currently derelict buildings for new uses. These actions will serve as an example to promote similar actions in the urban area. The project aims to become an iconic landmark for the municipality, based on the image that symbolises the silhouette of the Montilla skyline from a distance, together with the fountains on the plains. It is a dynamic approach to revitalising the area and giving citizens the possibility to participate in governance. Thus, the project opens up to the street and lets out part of the plan to a social nexus that constitutes a consolidated part of the complex. The historical, architectural and cultural heritage of the town of Montilla is enhanced by considering the project as a reinterpretation of the old winery buildings, providing an added value that will complete the tourist activity, offering a tangible diversity by interpreting the persistent reality of the town. For Plan9 it is especially important to create an architecture that, while solving problems related to the fulfilment of a plan and its spatiality, is concerned with thinking about the space that is given to people to enjoy, a public space. This provides a space for meetings, talks and outdoor activities, a space linked to the urban fabric for social enjoyment and recreation.( Description provided by the architects )
