La Ferme du Rail is a collaborative space designed to promote urban agriculture, professional training, inclusive housing and food production in Paris. The Farm is built around a mixed community of people in need for inclusion and of horticulture students. It develops local farming that values organic waste collected in the neighborhood. It aims at minimizing the energy, food and financial needs through the implementation of a circular economy.Born from the desire of residents and associations of the 19th arrondissement of Paris to create a place that combines urban agriculture and solidarity, La Ferme du Rail’s objective is the inclusion of precarious people. It is built on the existing social network and increases its strength with new economic activities and job creations.La Ferme du Rail deploys a model of sustainable economy. The project holders are working together with every stakeholders to implement a social and inclusive vision. It relies on the skills of each of its contributors to reinforce the benefits for the society. The activities of the farm are organized in local and territorial exchange networks. Farmers will offer the residents a range of new services: collection and treatment of local organic waste or unsold food, gardening, catering, selling vegetables, workshops and events. It will also provide offsite maintenance services of green areas.La Ferme du Rail is an equipment opened to the neighborhood. It includes a restaurant for tasting products grown on site. It is also a place to raise awareness on better food production and environmental protection in urban areas. In many fields that matter to build a more sustainable city, La Ferme du Rail is a social and cultural resource for Parisians: training in gardening and composting activities, information on biological and responsible agriculture, exchange of best practices, and urban ecology.(Description provided by the architects)
