Müze Gazhane Cultural Centre

Description

This is a restoration, landscaping and reuse project carried out by DS Mimarlik and completed in 2021. Originally, the site was occupied by a gas production centre, which ceased operations in 1993 and has since been left in ruins. At that time, a neighbourhood movement, grouped around the Gasworks Environment Volunteers association, began its struggle for the transformation of the building into a public facility. After a long process, a definitive protocol was signed in 2000, which established the beginning of a historical investigation, the restitution of the structures and the cultural reuse of the site. Finally, the project started to come to fruition in 2014. Inaugurated in 2021, the former energy infrastructure has become a social and meeting space where art, science and education converge in an attempt to give new impetus to an area that had been forgotten for decades.
