Description
The harsh weather conditions of Mazatlán, such as high salinity, humidity and heat, clearly conditioned the design of this school. The project is conceived as a cluster of hexagonal brick modules that generate a series of filters that provide thermal inertia. A continuous wall, occasionally interrupted by triangular openings that allow air circulation between the outside and the inner courtyards, separates the perimeter of the school from the exterior. The system of hexagons is not completely aligned, generating complex geometries here and there, reminiscent of the Montessori method. A method based on the idea that each student is involved in the development of their own education and educational space. In addition, the scale of the openings and classrooms helps children to use the space freely, activating their capacity for play and imagination. The perimeter of each hexagon features a communication corridor which, in addition to extending the indoor space for outdoor activities, contributes to the climate control of the educational space.
