Description
The poet’s work is organically intertwined with Granada’s very own identity, just as this cultural space for his work is naturally integrated into the fabric of the city centre, becoming an indistinguishable part of its surroundings. In one of the corners of the Plaza de la Romanilla, there is an entrance that bridges the gap between the public space and the interior street, connecting the back of the centre with Calle Lucena. Inside, there are exhibition rooms, an auditorium, offices, and a library. Hanging in the library is a steel box, reminiscent of a trunk, containing the poet’s original manuscripts. The building pushes back its boundaries by being set back from the rear of the buildings on Calle Lucena, creating a courtyard that ensures the internal spaces are well lit and adequately ventilated. Conversely, on the upper floors, small courtyards open up into different workspaces. The building is composed of interconnected fragments, designed to interact harmoniously with the urban landscape and to accommodate a multi-faceted programme. A place where the legacy of Federico is kept alive and is even more deeply rooted in the city.
