Description
At the end of the bay of San Sebastian is one of the most famous works of the Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida. Three large steel sculptures are anchored in different rocks on the cliff, creating a landscape that looks as if it has always been there. The boundaries between architecture, art and nature are dissolved. The intervention of the architect Peña Ganchegui, who designed a square which is a meeting place between the mountain and the sea, also contributes decisively to this. A platform from which to approach the work and the landscape. The square is built on the remains of an old sewer, generating a topography built with powerful pieces of pink granite from Porriño. Both Chillida's work and Peña Ganchegui's work function as a whole, a fruitful dialogue between architecture, art and landscape.
