Description
The extension project for the Prado Museum is located at the rear of Villanueva's building, creating a new entrance without altering the interpretation of the historic building as an autonomous body. The cloister of the Hieronymites Monastery, which was in a state of near ruin, is incorporated, enveloped by a newly created building. This is connected underground with the original building through a transition body that houses the cafeteria, the museum shop and temporary exhibition rooms. On the roof of the new body, a new landscaped plaza is created between the historic building and the new façade of the cloister, which has a monumental door, the work of the sculptor Cristina Iglesias.
