Gymnastics Centre

Description

This building designed by Enric Miralles and Carme Pinós demonstrates that a large-capacity facility can build a landscape without creating discontinuities in the public space. With a fragmented programme in which large spaces for competitions are combined with smaller rooms for training, the architects build a system of spaces that dilutes the limits of the architectural object. The visitor has the impression of progressively entering through cantilevers and crevices illuminated from different angles. These flows converge in the large training and competition spaces, where the presence of the large trusses can be observed, which, with a changing profile, manage to structurally resolve the roof, forming an important part of the building's plastic expression.
