Description
This project succeeds in recovering a former mining area, making it a natural space for the enjoyment of the citizens. Located in what used to be the outskirts of Istanbul, one of the virtues of this project is that it has managed to preserve this large plot of land from the urban development processes of this area in recent times. The design features a pond that nurtures an aquatic ecosystem, self-supplied by the natural flow of water down the sloping site from the mine. Additionally, the studio planned to form a hill and plant groves of trees to provide recreational and rest areas for pedestrians. DS Mimarlik implemented an innovative project based on environment and sustainability as guiding principles. The project allows us to visualise the potential of nature to regenerate degraded spaces, while highlighting the history of the site.
