Description
An exemplary project for the revitalisation of a historic neighbourhood in demographic decline, historically linked to the pearl industry, which aims to encourage the return of residents through a strategy of renovation and creation of public spaces and neighbourhood facilities. The common thread of the interventions is the memory of the activities associated with the pearl. Traditional passive climate control elements, such as wind towers, have been restored and new buildings and public spaces have been incorporated with a contemporary architectural language. All these interventions have reshaped the neighbourhood, given it internal coherence and encouraged the return of residents linked to the new tourism economy. It is certainly an example of how contemporary architecture can be sensitive to context while affirming the creative impulse of the present.
