Description

This cultural centre is located next to the ruins of Teopanzolco in Mexico. The relationship with these pre-Hispanic structures is the main theme of the project, which extends the archaeological esplanade to create a continuous public space. The two main volumes are built on this platform, two triangular pyramids of different sizes that resolve the public programme of the cultural centre. The slope of both triangles is inverted. While the base of the smaller one opens towards the archaeological site, framing the view, the roof plane of the larger triangle merges with the public platform. This allows visitors to experience climbing, which for conservation reasons is forbidden in the ruins.  Around these two main rooms are the building's server areas, which are illuminated by courtyards that integrate some of the vegetation into the enclosure. The main entrance is through the smaller pyramid, so that the events that take place always begin and end with a view of the archaeological site. This is an architecture that allows the visitor to imagine the past from different points of view, presenting heritage not only as an image but also as an experience.
