Description
The project for the remodelling of the Atocha station area involved the disappearance of the elevated junction at the end of the Castellana, the refurbishment of the historic building, the construction of a new commuter and bus interchange, and a car park. The project proposes the creation of a new entrance platform located at the rear of the historic building where the large lantern of the suburban train entrance and the large tower marking the entrance are located. The train station is covered by a large hypostyle hall that allows natural light to penetrate, creating a space on a monumental scale. The decision to separate passenger flows between departures and arrivals was reinforced with the second extension of the station, resolved with a roof of white lacquered warped surfaces that extend the previous roof at the same time, clearly differentiating it from it.
