Description

Historically, the Llobregat river has been the corridor for all infrastructure in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. Over the last few decades, urban development has seen roads, motorways, railways, high-speed trains and all kinds of service networks and facilities on a huge scale. This process has caused a general deterioration in the condition of the natural environment, its habitats, the water quality, etc. However, the infrastructure along the river has now created an enormous barrier that makes it difficult for, or even prevents, many towns from accessing the river. Lately, our attitude as a society towards the Llobregat has changed. We now want to recover the river with all its ecological worth and improve it. We want to take advantage of its huge potential as a public space in our towns. The CON and City Council themselves are promoting different operations in this area, with the aim of creating a Llobregat Park, with a re-naturalised river and a network of well-connected paths along the route, as well as good access from the different urban centres that it passes through. They will also set up a new green infrastructure that connects El Prat beaches with the Puente del Diablo bridge in Martorell, and enable it to reach other natural areas nearby, such as Collserola and Garraf. (Description provided by the architect)
